HP to release details on the P6000 next month
May 09, 2011
Next Month, HP Plans to release details about the new fifth generation in its EVA storage line... Tom Joyce who is the vice president of marketing for HP StorageWorks has recently offered some insight into what can be expected. HP will offer new EVA models with increased performance and management efficiency; they will also add thin provisioning as well as the ability to work with 6-Gbps SAS and 8-Gbps Fibre channel drives. The new version will be called the HP P6000 EVA, the P in HP’s storage array name signifies a SAN device.
Joyce was not very specific on the details about the new P6000 preferring to wait for the HP Discover event due to take place in Las Vegas early next month. Joyce did mention however, that they will have another significant release in the EVA platform within the next 12 months or so but could not say too much at this time.
Having the EVA, 3Par, and Left-hand storage products is important to HP, which is looking to increase its storage market share beyond the 11 per cent it currently has, Joyce said.
When 3Par and Left-hand were acquired, the initial view among customers was that the EVA would disappear, but HP has done a good job of differentiating the lines and assuring customers that EVA will be around for the future.
