VMware reveal virtualisation technology for smartphones

VMware has revealed new virtualisation technology that will provide an easier way for businesses to integrate employee-owned smartphones into their processes.



During the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the software developer demonstrated a mobile platform that allows users to run a personal profile and a separate secure work profile on the same Android handset.

IT staff are able to have tight control over the permissions and functions of the corporate profile, and will be able to enable and disable features or even wipe data without affecting the owner's personal files.

The software platform has been demonstrated on an LG Optimus Black, and VMware will begin field trials of the technology later this year.

In February, VMware highlighted the growing popularity of its virtualisation solutions among small to medium-sized businesses, due to the fast return on investment that they provide.
