Virtualisation is becoming more and more popular
February 16, 2011
According to HP the virtualisation of storage and desktops is due to become more the norm in business as many move towards cloud computing.
As offices continue to modernise their infrastructures and demand instant access to information within the workplace virtualisation will become more necessary.
The idea of virtualisation itself is nothing new, according to HP, the role of virtualisation within government departments and business IT infrastructures is set to become more visible as the cloud becomes increasingly used within the workplace which provides cost savings through the efficiency of server storage.
The advent of virtualisation enables IT departments to be more centralised and flexible to meet user’s needs when there is the requirement for more processing power. It is the availability to add extra capacity when required that provides huge benefits to companies.
It is quite often seen that businesses have bought a number of servers and are at present only using around 10 per cent of the server’s capacity. Virtualisation offers a much more efficient way of utilising capacity.
Similar to hot-desks in an office; where you might have more employees than desks available it is unlikely that everyone will be there at precisely the same time.
The use of virtualisation is expected become more widely used as HP aims to help businesses move towards a hybrid mode of cloud computing, which incorporates aspects of cloud usage where necessary to meet business’s needs.
HP believe that this is the first step towards cloud computing in the office, storage is an area where organisations are feeling the most pain, and demand for storage has been and will continue to grow at a tremendous rate in the future.
