This regional retail organisation approached Port-P in April 2015 in relation to their aging, and soon to be out of support fleet of Access Points located both at head office and across over 140 regional stores.

Working closely with the customer to understand the challenges they faced in managing a large number of remote sites with no local IT support, it became an obvious choice to recommend a Cloud Managed Cisco Meraki solution.

Cisco Meraki access points can be managed via an online portal, from anywhere in the World with an internet connection. Not only did this meet the customer challenge in looking after hundreds of Access Points across 140+ locations, it also made for a much quicker and cost efficient deployment as no skilled or key IT staff were required to visit the stores to configure the AP’s individually.

Also and rather importantly given the nature of the customers’ business, the secure handling of data ensured that the solution remained fully within the PCI requirements the organisation were obliged to meet.


Results and Conclusion

 The customer reviewed and analysed Wireless solutions from multiple Vendors before committing to working with Port-P and Cisco Meraki. In fact Port-P first suggested Cisco Meraki as far back as 2013 when the customer first started considering their options, and such is the level of trust they place in Port-P that when the time came to actually replace the existing solution it was Cisco Meraki that was at the top of list of candidates.

By opting for Cisco Meraki the customer enjoyed a very simple deployment and ongoing ease of use and management, creating and monitoring policies from their Head Office IT Team, and pushing these out to all remote sites.

Obvious cost savings have been made due to a vast reduction in the number of site visits being made by their central IT team.

Port-P have been a trusted supplier to this client since 2009 and continue to work with them on all key infrastructure projects as well as helping with day to day ordering requirements.
